KIOWA
and South Barber County want all the wind crews to know that the area
has a wealth to offer and is waiting for them and their families to explore
the locale. Kiowa has been a Railroad hub for over 100 years and
knows how to cater to construction groups. We would like the Wind
teams to feel welcome and comfortable during their stay in our community.
Kiowa wants the wind crews and their families to reside with us during
the build out and can accommodate all the groups as the railroad just
completed a major 3 year upgrade and the RV parks are empty, just waiting
for this project.
South
Barber County, Kiowa and Hardtner, is only 25 minutes south of the project
site. The communities have Four RV parks (one with over 60 hook
ups), 6 restaurants, 3 quick stops, 24 hour gas pumps, an auto store,
two food stores, a meat market, two motels, high speed web service, great
schools, a movie theater, a radio station, a liquor store, 24 hr emergency
care/hospital, and a club to get a drink after a hard days work! And at
only 20 miles to Wal-Mart and many other restaurants and clubs the South
Barber area is the perfect place for you to reside during your stay.
The wind is beckoning your name! Can't you hear it calling for
you to stay in Kiowa?

Climbing the Wind Towers. June 15th 2009

RSI Vice President Miranda Allen with Senator Ruth Teichman and House Representative Pat Maloney.

Phase One is coming on line Jan 2009! The Flat
Ridge Wind Farm is using 40 Clipper 2.5 MW C-96 wind turbine generators
to generate 100 MW of renewable energy. This site is through Westar
Energy's and BP Alternative Energy's efforts to invest in wind energy
as a way of making the state of Kansas more energy independent.
Phase one of the Flat Ridge Wind Farm will provide enough electricity
to power more than 30,000 homes and offset the equivalent of nearly
240,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions to the atmosphere annually.
Westar Energy will own half of the wind farm and purchase energy
from the remaining half. The Flat Ridge Wind Farm is expected to
be in full commercial operation by the end of Feb 09.
